Utility Locate - Granbury, TX
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was contacted by the a general contractor, Dallas, Texas to locate utility lines that would be struck in there trenching locations. The customer was trenching lines for new conduits to be laid for Conexus that were going to be placed in the area. They also needed to create fencing around the future Conexus so GPRS needed to locate around the fence post that were going in so they did not strike any lines while hydraulically pounding the fence posts in. This was a unique situation because this had to be performed inside an oil refinery. The specifications and qualifications were extensive that needed to be met to perform and complete the locate. Many refineries are now requiring locates to be completed prior to any excavations or digging on site. GPRS has the insurance and qualifications to meet the special standards typically required to perform any work on these special job sites. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was able to come out within a few days and successfully locate all the lines, some that would have been struck, making for a successful project for the general contractor.
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems used a 400 MHz antenna for this application and a Radio Detection (RD) device to detect electrical current deep in the soil. All findings were marked with SUE marking paint directly on the surface for easy interpretation by the customer. GPRS’ 400 MHz antenna was ideal because of its accurate deep penetration and the open clear area the technician had to work. GPR was ideal for this application due to the active work site in the surrounding areas. GPR emits no radiation and is safe for others to work in the area near the scan location.
