Underground Utility Detection in Norfolk, VA.

GPRS was called to help locate any utilities running in the path of new proposed Power Pole locations. The customer needed to bury a new pipe approximately 20’ in the ground. They were being driven into the ground and wanted to clear approximately 25 locations. The top picture shows the 60” structure that was to be driven into the ground. After being drove into the ground 10’ of soil needed to be removed and filled with concrete to support the new pole. The areas were scanned for utilities and or other materials in the ground that could affect the pile driving process. Each area was marked prior to the process to ensure there would be nothing in the area to deter them from doing their job. There were a few conflicts in areas that were not expected. The conflicts were marked and the structure was moved accordingly. They did not want to hit any existing buried utilities or construction materials. We were able to give the depth of each utility, buried construction material and mark directly on the surface in real time prior to the work being performed. Not only is GPR a safe non-destructive way to locate the utilities but it also saves time money if they were to hit a utility and have to repair it, or hit old construction material which would not allow them to continue the pile driving process.

The bottom picture is a picture of a structure completed with no issues.
