GPRS Locates Reinforcement in Structural Wall CA

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. - GPRS - of California was contacted by a construction company to locate rebar in a structural wall prior to coring 100 holes for gas lines that will feed inside the apartments. We were asked to scan a roughly 500’x5’ area along the sides of the structural wall. We marked all findings with chalk as the client advised that the wall was a finished product. The client also stressed on how important it was to locate all of the reinforcement in the wall because they did not want to hit any of the rebar since it was a structural wall. We were able to mark out all the rebar in the area within 4 hours and the customer was able to lay out his cores and core the following day. The wall was approximately 12” thick with 2 layers of rebar and extra doweled rebar at the top of the wall. We used our “Mini” 1600 MHz antenna to locate all the rebar in the wall.

Ground penetrating radar mapping is a great tool to scan areas for post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes and can also be used to locate underground utilities or USTs prior to digging or excavating. GPRS has offices in every major US city; contact Freddy Espinal at 805-729-5877 or freddy.espinal@gp-radar.com to learn more about ground penetrating radar and how GPRS can assist in your projects.
