Concrete Scanning for Post Tension Cables in Virginia Beach, VA.

An Contractor out of North Carolina called Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to locate Post Tension cables in Virginia Beach within a new construction building. The contractor had multiple pipes in the slab that had shifted during the pour of the slab. The top picture is prior to GPRS being called out to scan for post tension cables. The plumbing pipes only needed to be moved a few inches, and it was thought that they could chip the concrete gently and see a cable as they were chipping the concrete. That was not the case as post tension cables vary in depth and do not run in a straight line. This cable was cut prior to calling GPRS, resulting in costly repairs.

With the proper training GPRS was able to detect the post tension cables prior to chipping or cutting. GPRS was able to mark directly on the surface the depth and location of the post tension cables in real time. The bottom picture is the location of 2 post tension cables running beside a toilet flange. We were able to not only give locations of the post tension cables but depths as well. All of our technicians have completed the OSHA 10 training and are currently involved in an ongoing safety training course. Safety is a priority to us at Ground Penetrating Radar Systems and our thirteen year track record proves it.

GPR is a great tool to locate post tension cables. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Virginia Beach, VA. scans for tension cables and reinforcing multiple times a week.
